Frequently Asked Questions about Plastic Surgery

Silicone vs Saline

**Silicone Implants:** Known for their natural feel, silicone implants are filled with a cohesive gel that mimics natural breast tissue.

**Saline Implants:** These are filled with sterile salt water. Saline implants can be adjusted during surgery to achieve the desired volume, and any rupture is quickly noticeable as the body absorbs the saline solution.

**Safety and Longevity:** Both types of implants are considered safe and approved by health authorities. On average, breast implants last between 10 to 20 years. However, many can safely remain in place for much longer without issues. Regular check-ups and  MRI imaging is recommend to  help ensure your implants are in good condition over time.

Mommy Makeover

Ever wondered what it would feel like to reclaim your body after giving so much of yourself to motherhood? You’re not alone. One of the main concerns I hear in the office is women desiring to restore their confidence and get their pre- baby bodies back  And you deserve it.  Your body sacrificed a lot to bring life into the world, and it's ok to want to get a little part of it back. But sometimes the changes that occur during pregnancy are beyond the weight changes, and that is where I can help with a mommy restoration or “mommy makeover”.

A mommy makeover typically includes a combination of procedures like breast augmentation or lift to restore volume and shape, tummy tuck to tighten abdominal muscles and remove excess skin, and liposuction to contour areas affected by pregnancy. These treatments are personalized to address your unique post-pregnancy concerns and help you regain confidence in your appearance and well-being.

True or false?

There are a lot of rumors out there when it comes to surgery, and we get it. Surgery can be scary and is always a big decision to make. But at Stein Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery, we want to make sure our clients know the basics.

1. True or false...Plastic surgeons employ techniques to minimize scarring, such as placing incisions in discreet locations or using minimally invasive approaches. Additionally, scars tend to fade over time and can often be concealed with makeup or clothing... TRUE

2. True or False...Plastic surgery is not a substitute for weight loss or a healthy lifestyle. Procedures like liposuction or tummy tucks can remove localized fat deposits, but they are not meant to replace diet and exercise as the primary methods for weight management... TRUE

3. True or False...While discomfort and recovery times vary depending on the procedure, advancements in surgical techniques have led to reduced pain and shorter recovery periods for many plastic surgery procedures. Surgeons also provide pain management strategies to ensure patients are comfortable during the recovery process...TRUE

Breast Reduction vs Lift

Breast reduction addresses the challenges of having large breasts. Back pain, neck strain, difficulty exercising – these are all common issues that can significantly impact your quality of life.  During surgery your breasts are lifted and made smaller to better suit your body.

Breast lift restores the position of your breast tissue and nipple which has changed with time, pregnancy or weight change. Sometimes a breast implant is added for extra fullness.

Both surgeries help to increase your confidence.  Finally you can wear the clothes you love and feel comfortable in your own skin.

Botox vs Filler

Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause those fine lines and wrinkles, giving you a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Botox can also treat excessive sweating and improve migraines!

Fillers, on the other hand, add volume and contour to areas like your cheeks and lips; restoring a youthful appearance.

Together, they can smooth out crow’s feet, soften smile lines and plump up areas that need a little extra love. The result? A natural, rejuvenated you!

Implant Explantation

Maybe you had breast implants when you were younger and desired a fuller look, but now you crave a more natural silhouette. Perhaps motherhood or weight fluctuations have changed your needs.  Whatever the reason, you're considering breast implant removal (explantation), and that's totally okay!

Will it leave scars? Not only do modern techniques minimize scarring, but during your consultation we will discuss options to further reduce their visibility.

Will my breasts look saggy? Not necessarily! Several factors like your skin's elasticity and the type of removal surgery will impact the final results. We will even discuss breast lift options during your consultation for a perkier result!

Will I feel better? There are symptoms, related to breast implants in certain patients diagnosed with breast implant illness, that do improve.  But there are no guarantees.

Medical Tourism

Thinking about traveling overseas or even to destination hotspots like Miami for a discounted plastic surgery procedure?

**STOP and READ THIS FIRST!**

While the price might seem attractive, the risks are real and significant. Here's why:

1. **Safety Concerns**: Not all clinics overseas or in popular destinations meet the stringent safety standards we adhere to. Compromises in sterilization and operative procedures can lead to serious infections and complications.

2. **Qualified Surgeons**: Ensure your surgeon is highly qualified and certified. In some places, the credentials may not be as robust, putting you at risk of subpar care.

3. **Aftercare**: Proper postoperative care is crucial. Traveling makes follow-up appointments and immediate care in case of complications more challenging, or impossible.

4. **Legal Protections**: In the unfortunate event that something goes wrong, legal recourse may be limited or nonexistent in another country.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Prioritize your health and safety by choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon who operates in a safe, sterile, and certified operating center. Your body deserves the best care!

Surgical Scars

Surgical technique and scar placement are part of how Plastic Surgeons minimize scarring.  The best things you can do after surgery are drink lots of water and avoid sun exposure.  When your surgeon clears you, scar massage and silicone are other ways to reduce discoloration and thickness as you heal.

Remember, scars change for around 12 months so be patient!
